Arts center to be named after superintendent

The 1,200-seat performing arts center at Germantown High School is on schedule to open in early 2025.

The Charlotte Seals Performing Arts Center is part of a $44 million project. The school opened a building holding 24 new classrooms earlier this summer.

As of Monday morning, the panels bearing former Superintendent Seals’ name were being installed on the front of the building.

“Progress is definitely taking place,” said Gene Graham, the district director of communications . “We are very excited for this new facility.”

On the inside, Graham said crews are beginning to hang sheetrock. 

“The space is really taking shape,” Graham said. “We are hopeful that the new facility will be open for use in early 2025.” 

Work ahead includes laying flooring, installing plumbing fixtures, getting the ductwork finished and HVAC systems up and running, and more. 

“We are seeing progress every day,” Graham said. “It truly will be an amazing showplace when it is complete.”

Germantown High School is home to 1,400 students in grades nine through 12 in the Germantown Zone of Madison County Schools. The A-rated school excels in academics, athletics, and the arts, and the growing campus facilities will enhance student opportunities for future success.

Madison County Schools unveiled a new wing of 24 new classrooms on July, part of a $44 million project to add 96,000 square feet of new space for students and faculty that includes the classrooms and the performing arts center.

Local dignitaries and officials from the community and school district gathered on Tuesday, July 30, at 2 p.m. to officially celebrate the completion of the new classroom wing right on time for the start of the 2024-2025 school year.
