New police department under construction

Gluckstadt broke ground earlier this month on a new Police Department expected to be completed in August or September of next year. 

The new PD will be located at 140 Gluckstadt Way near Germantown High School. 

Alderman approved the architectural plans by Dean Architecture during their July 11 meeting. 

Assistant Police Chief Barry Hale said multiple state leaders and other county and city officials were on hand for the ceremony, including Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann, Speaker of the House Phillip Gunn, state Rep. Jill Ford, Sheriff Randy Tucker, Mayor Walter Morrison, and Chief Wendell Watts. 

“We want to thank our state leaders for allocating $1,750,000 for us to put towards this building the land,” Hale said. “We also want to thank the mayor and aldermen, along with planning and zoning for helping this become a reality. This is the first new municipal building being constructed in the city, and that tells you how the mayor and board have put law enforcement first on their priorities, and want us to have a safe city.” 

The new building is estimated to be around 14,000 square feet and will house the Municipal Court, holding cells, dispatch, and offices. The building itself will cost about $6,955,000, not counting the costs after dispatch is implemented along with furnishing and access control. 

Benchmark Construction is in charge of construction and Dean Architecture did the design.
