MADISON — Keifer’s held a soft opening here Tuesday that included a ribbon cutting and luncheon with a host of city officials.

“We have a full house,” General Manager Chip Holden said Tuesday as a group of city officials that included firefighters, aldermen and Mayor Mary Hawkins-Butler entered the new Keifer’s restaurant off the Highland Colony Parkway.

“We are excited to be here and wanted to offer a special thanks to Mayor Mary Hawkins Butler,’ Holden said. “We could not have done this without her.”

Keifer’s, a popular Jackson-based Mediterranean restaurant, has been roughly two years in the making. Holden said they have been working hard to ensure that everything was as it should be in the new restaurant.

Holden said they have received regular inquiries about when they are opening and is glad they can finally open their doors.

“We did not want to open unless it was perfect,” Holden said. “We want to give Madison what they deserve.”

The restaurant features a menu familiar to anyone who has visited the Jackson location in Belhaven. It includes a selection of pita wraps, salads and their cottage fried potatoes.

The building will have about 248 seats and a large outdoor patio.

“Keifer’s is a staple in Jackson and we hope to make ourselves a staple in Madison as well,” Holden said.

Holden has been with Keifers for about 30 years. He started at the restaurant as a waiter.

“You get to know these families and their kids that come in the restaurant,” Holden said. “Now I see some of those kids come in with their kids. It is exciting.”

Keifer’s Madison is located at 101 Highland Way. They are open from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Sunday.
