G’stadt Rotary Club in the works
GLUCKSTADT — Local leaders here are working to organize a Gluckstadt Rotary Club, according to Madison-Ridgeland Rotarian and businessman Mark Doiron who is leading the effort.
Doiron said The Madison-Ridgeland Rotary Club is helping to organize and charter the Gluckstadt Rotary Club in the city of Gluckstadt.
“This is the largest service organization in the world,” Doiron said. “We are excited and think Glcukstadt is ready for a club of their own. I have talked to Mayor Walter Morrison and we have his blessing.”
They hope to have the club chartered by the end of May with between 20 and 25 members.
Doiron is helping to organize an interest meeting at the St. Joseph Catholic Church Parish Hall on Tuesday, April 23 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
“We look forward to seeing you and of course,’ Doiron said. “You are welcome to invite anyone to come and learn more about Rotary International and the chartering process to become a charter member of the Gluckstadt Rotary Club.”
Doiron said he would be out this week passing out information sheets to local businesses. he said the information meeting will be the first step to starting the Gluckstadt Club.
“We will talk and get ideas on where they would want to meet and what they would want to eat,” Doiron said.
He noted meetings are usually organized around a meal, usually breakfast or lunch but could be held in the evenings as well.
“This will all be up to the Gluckstadt membership,” Doiron said.
Doiron, who lives in Madison, said Rotary meetings are held weekly for one hour with a meal, fellowship, and speaking programs that will be of interest to the membership. He also said club socials are encouraged throughout the year involving Rotarian families as well as business associates.
“Rotarians with their diverse backgrounds come together to exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships as well as a long record of addressing challenges in their communities and around the world,” Doiron said.
Doiron said he joined the Madison-Ridgeland Rotary Club in April of 1987, just a month shy of being a charter member. During his career with Rotary, he has served as a governor in charge of some 40 clubs in the region and has helped found clubs in Flowood and West Jackson.
Rotary International was started in Chicago in February 1905.
