LETTER / LANEY CRAMPTON

To the editor:

I share this story because, in these very unsettling times, it is important to remember there are good people out there who are kind and caring.

I was on my way to a drive-in church service when my brand new car “told” me I had very low  pressure in one of my tires.

I was on Highway 463 when I immediately began to hear that all too recognizable thumping sound.

After pulling off the road to safety, I saw that there was a nail in my tire. Several people stopped to ask if I needed help. I told each of them I had already called roadside assistance.

Then a lovely couple, Robrelle Murray and Mitch Thomas, stopped.

When I told them I had called for assistance, Robrelle said that they were going to stay with me until service arrived. Although I didn’t feel in any danger waiting alone that morning, my heart began to swell because of their kindness.

We all know kindness and caring can not be legislated, but it can be taught. All of the people who stopped to ask if I needed help had, at sometime in their lives, learned the Golden Rule, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”

Several years ago, even Clint Eastwood wrote about the unsolicited help he received while traveling the roads of Madison County.

I am left with such gratitude!
