Madison's Bumgarner crowned Miss Mississippi's Outstanding Teen

Seventeen-year-old Brooke Bumgarner of Madison was crowned Miss Mississippi's Teen 2023 — winning over $5,000 in cash scholarship assistance — following a weekend of showcasing talent, interview skills, and community service achievements. 

Bumgarner was also named an Evening Wear Preliminary Winner, Overall Evening Wear Winner, and the Teens in Action Winner for her community service work dealing with Bullying Prevention and Character Education.

As Miss Mississippi’s Teen, Bumgarner will compete for the national title at the annual Miss America’s Teen Competition held in January 2025.

Brooke, who performed a vocal talent to “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” for the talent competition, is a senior at Madison Central High School where she is a Student Body President, a member of the National Honor Society, National Beta Club, Reveille Show Choir, Mystix Dance Team, and was named Homecoming Queen and Miss Madison Central High School.

Her community service initiative “Bullying Prevention and Character Education” focuses on instilling positive character traits in today’s youth through interactive seminars and educational activities.

As Miss Mississippi’s Teen, she will now travel across the state of Mississippi spreading her message on bullying prevention.

“Being Miss Mississippi’s Teen means having the opportunity to reach and impact so many people," she said. "I have been a part of the Miss America Program for four years as a local titleholder, but I can’t wait to experience the adventure ahead of me. I am grateful for this next year of service, and I am so excited to share my story and heart with the state of Mississippi!”

Bumgarner is excited about the chance to represent Mississippi at the Miss America’s Teen Competition. The primary function of Miss America’s Teen is to serve as an advocate and role model for young women while sharing her passion and life story, as well as the legacy of the Miss America and Miss America’s Teen.

“Brooke is an exceptional young woman who excelled in all phases of competition,” said Winky Freeman, Executive Director of Miss Mississippi’s Teen. “The Miss Mississippi Corporation is proud of all 21 contestants who competed this past weekend. Each one represented her hometown well and demonstrated the bright future of Mississippi. We look forward to working with Brooke as she prepares to represent Mississippi at Miss America’s Teen."

The Miss Mississippi Corporation awarded $15,550 in cash scholarships to young ladies across Mississippi. Miss Metro Jackson’s Teen, Blake Hart was named First Alternate. Averi Cockrell, Miss Hattiesburg’s Teen was named Second Alternate. Madalyn Sullivan, Miss Oxford’s Teen was named Third Alternate. Avery McNair, Miss Heart of the South’s Teen was named Fourth Alternate. The remaining Top Eleven Finalists were Miss Mid South’s Teen, Chloe Braxton, Miss Fairpark’s Teen Gracie Weeden, Miss Vicksburg’s Teen, Addie Grace Clay, Miss Meridian’s Teen, Anna Grace Terry, Miss New South’s Teen Ana Holley, and Miss Jones County’s Teen Kyla Pohlmann.
