The Tri-County Academy softball team is headed to the MAIS 4A state tournament, following an undefeated effort en route to winning the MAIS 4A south tournament.

The Rebels went 4-0 in matchups on Saturday and Monday, outscoring their opponents 40-10 throughout the tournament, which included games against Christian Collegiate, Central Hinds Academy, and two matchups against Amite School.

Georgia Burgess and Merritt Jourdan both had two starts each pitching for the Rebels and both put together great performances, with a combined 2.66 ERA in the wins.

At the plate for the Rebels, it was a great all-around effort with an average of ten runs scored per game throughout the tournament. In the title game, four players totalled multi-hit games, along with four players contributing at least one RBI in the game.

This is a very balanced lineup for the Rebels that will be a tough out in this week’s MAIS 4A state tournament.

The Rebels first matchup in the state tournament will be at 9 AM on Saturday against the fourth place team in the MAIS 4A north tournament, which will be finalized Wednesday night.

As for the updates on the rest of Madison County softball teams, all six MAIS schools have officially qualified for the MAIS state tournament this year.

Jackson Prep, Jackson Academy, MRA, and St. Joseph will participate in the 6A tournament this year, while Tri-County Academy and Canton Academy will play in the 4A tournament.

Jackson Prep will get a first-round bye and will play the winner of MRA and Jackson Academy on Saturday, while St. Joseph will play Presbyterian Christian in the first round of the 6A tournament.

Tri-County Academy will open their state tournament run at 1 PM on Saturday, with their opponent not yet available, as the 4A north tournament did not finish up until Wednesday night.

The entire MAIS state softball tournament will take place on Saturday and Monday at Magee Sports Complex in Magee, with full brackets available on the MAIS website.
