8-year-old girl struck by school bus in Madison

MADISON — An eight-year-old girl is in critical condition after being hit by a Madison County School District bus here Wednesday, Madison Police Lieutenant Micah Taylor said.

According to Taylor, on Oct. 2, at approximately 4:20 p.m., the Madison Police Department responded to a Madison County School District bus accident. Taylor said the bus hit an eight-year-old female child at the intersection of Cobblestone Drive and Rockwood Drive. 

First responders arrived on the scene and immediately began providing medical assistance. The child was transported to UMMC by ambulance and is currently in critical condition, officials said.

“We ask the public to please stay away from the area, as Madison Police officers are continuing their investigation and reconstructing the scene,“ Taylor said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and Madison County School District.”

All school children on the bus were reunited with their parents.
