The football postseason journey will begin this week for a majority of the high school football teams in the Madison County area.

The St. Andrew’s Cross Country program earned a clean sweep in the MHSAA 2A state championship meets, winning both the girls’ and boys’ team titles.

With area playoff action starting this week, there will be few better matchups than Canton Academy hosting Greenville St. Joseph in a rematch of last year’s MAIS 3A semifinals.

Madison Central used a huge second half and a masterclass defensive performance to knock off Starkville 31-8, continuing to improve their playoff position during the final stretch of the regular season.

Madison Central and Germantown battled for the MHSAA 7A boys’ golf state championship, with Madison Central winning the state title by ten shots over the second-place Mavericks to win the team state championship at Tunica National Golf Club earlier this week.

The St. Joseph Catholic School varsity cheerleaders won the Midsouth Association of Independent Schools state championship in the organization’s statewide spirit competition.

Madison Central and St. Andrew’s both brought home MHSAA swimming state titles earlier this month at the Tupelo Aquatic Center, with the Jaguars bringing home the Class III title in both the girls’ and boys’ division, while St. Andrew’s won the boys’ title and was second in the girls’ division for Class I. 

Madison Central features in this week’s game of the week, as they host Starkville this Friday night in a region matchup that will have huge playoff implications.

Many people from around the state had their eyes on the Jackson Prep-MRA matchup on Friday night, expecting one of the closest and most exciting games of the season so far. 

Germantown and Madison Central competed in the MHSAA 7A girls’ golf state tournament this week at Patrick Farms in Pearl, which was hosted by Madison Central.
