MADISON — A three-hour standoff between law enforcement and a man barricaded inside a home in Cypress Lake ended with the man in custody on domestic violence and kidnapping charges Saturday morning, the authorities said.

The man, Brandon Stephen Bly, 26, was charged with aggravated domestic violence and kidnapping, Madison Police Capt. Kevin Newman said.

Bly had an initial appearance in Madison Municipal Court at 3 p.m. on Monday, July 31 and was denied bond.

“He was not granted bond,” Newman said. “MDOC has a probation revocation hearing scheduled for him on Aug. 10.”

The case will be forwarded to District Attorney John “Bubba” Bramlett and the Madison County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution, Newman said.

According to Newman the charges stem from an incident reported on Saturday, July 29, at 9:32 a.m., when officers of the Madison Police Department responded to the area of Beaumont Drive and Farwell Boulevard in Cypress Lake.

“The original call was concerning a male subject assaulting a female and possibly kicking her on the ground,” Newman said.

Upon the officers’ arrival, Newman said, the female victim was discovered on the sidewalk suffering from multiple injuries. Medical attention was provided for the victim while officers attempted to make contact with the suspect, Brandon Stephen Bly, at 813 Beaumont Drive in Madison.

The victim was transported to a local hospital where she was treated for her injuries.

Attempts to make contact with Bly were unsuccessful and it was determined that a 4-year-old child was also inside the residence, Newman said.

Special Response Teams the from Madison Police Department, the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, and the Ridgeland Police Department were activated and responded to the scene.

“Officers began attempting negotiations with Bly but were initially unsuccessful,” Newman said.

At 12:29 p.m., contact was made with Bly and he was taken into custody without incident. Special Response Teams entered the residence and discovered the 4-year-old child unharmed. The child was checked out by medical personnel and returned to the grandfather.

Bly was taken initially to the Madison Police Department for booking. Investigators remained at the scene to process evidence, Newman said. After booking, Bly was transported to the Madison County Detention Center.
