Saturday storm batters Madison

A couple of trees blew over onto a house in Madison’s Sherbourne neighborhood on Saturday. Madison the City took the brunt of damage from straight-line winds and a powerful thunderstorm that moved through Central Mississippi Saturday afternoon.
Trees were uprooted in several neighborhoods and Strawberry Patch Park, which remains closed.
Entergy Mississippi reported 24,000 customers lost power, with nearly 2,000 in Madison County that didn’t have power restored until later on Sunday.
Entergy reported the storm damaged 23 poles, 8 cross arms and 65 spans of downed wire.
Madison aldermen on Monday held a special called meeting to approve emergency cleanup work throughout the city.
