Mansfield named new sports editor

Carter Mansfield has been named the new Sports Editor of The Madison County Journal. 

Carter is a native of McMinnville, Tenn., and recently graduated from Austin Peay State University in May with a bachelor’s degree in sports communications.

His first experience in sports journalism came when he started a website covering high school football in Tennessee, State of Tennessee HSFB, which he ran and worked as managing editor of for three seasons. 

He also served as a sports reporter before being promoted to sports editor of Austin Peay’s student newspaper, The All State.

Carter also has experience in the broadcasting field, where he worked as the play-by-play voice for Austin Peay Women’s Basketball for the 2023-2024 season and worked as a radio analyst for the Austin Peay football team for the 2023 season.

Mansfield’s favorite experience in sports journalism is when he worked as the journalism and broadcasting intern for the Leesburg Lightning of the Florida Collegiate Summer League in the summer of 2023.

Carter grew up playing and watching sports religiously, which developed his passion for sports from a young age.
