Jones leads huge senior class for the Jaguars

Micah Jones is easy to spot among the Madison Central football team and that’s not only because of his 6’5 240 frame, but also because of his leadership and personality on and off the field.

Jones, a Florida commitment, was born and raised in and started playing little league football in Madison, which is where he developed his passion and love for football and built relationships that have lasted all the way until his senior season at Madison Central. 

“I grew up playing in the city of Madison since I was in the second or third grade and my family has always been big on sports, which made me end up playing basketball, baseball, and football,” Jones said. “Football has always been the sport that I love playing and just being on that field is something that I love doing.”

Now a star tight end and defensive end, he is leading a massive, 31-player senior class for the Jaguars this season, their largest since the 2021 season when they won the state title.

“Our seniors have a really strong bond that we’ve had through middle school and all throughout high school, it’s really amazing on and off the field, we hang out almost everyday,” Jones said. “Now that we’re seniors, we’re trying to go out with a bang.”

Madison Central Head Coach Toby Collums will be leaning heavily on Jones this year and Collums believes that he has all the physical traits, but more importantly the leadership qualities and personality to lead and make an impact on the Jaguar program this season.

“He’s just very respectful and everyone loves him on campus,” Collums said. “A lot of guys, when they get in his situation with the opportunities he has, use the attention in a negative way, but he hasn’t done that. He uses it as motivation to get better.”

Jones has elite athleticism for someone of his size, which makes him such a sought after player by college coaches and an elite player on both sides of the ball.

“He’s really two players in one for us right now, playing key roles on both sides of the ball, which just shows how versatile and athletic he really is,” Collums said. “He obviously has a great frame, but he also has a great motor, gives great effort, and is very coachable.”

Jones is currently committed to Florida and also holds offers from powerhouses like Alabama, LSU, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State, showing his potential as a player and how highly regarded he is as a prospect by college coaches. He is currently ranked as the 633rd best player in the country and a three-star prospect by the 247Sports composite rankings, which blends rankings from most of the major recruiting services.

“The culture, the fans, and the environment really stood out to me about Florida,” Jones said. “My relationships with the coaches there are really strong and I think I really fit in with their offense because they use a tight end a lot.”

Jones and the Jaguars have one of the state’s toughest schedules this year, including their gauntlet of a region, but they are ready to face that challenge and let those games prepare them for the postseason and beyond.

After a comeback win over a very solid Ocean Springs team on the road last week, things do not get any easier for the Jaguars this week, as they get ready to take on another top-ranked program in Brandon on the road.

“It’s really important to just try and get better every week, especially when you’re building towards region play and the playoffs,” Collums said. “We expect it to be a big-time atmosphere on the road against a rival in Brandon.”
