RIDGELAND — A Jackson man has been arrested on murders charges after a shooting at an apartment complex here last week.

The man, Rodney Glenn Taylor, 58, was arrested and charged with the murder of Kyeon Terrell Lyles, the authorities said.

Taylor was arrested on June 23 at 1:15 p.m. at a residence on Lampton Avenue in Jackson, according to Ridgeland Police Chief Brian Myers.

“I am very proud of our people,” Myers said. “They jumped on this quickly and got him into custody.”

Myers said Taylor had his initial bond appearance on Tuesday, June 27, and bond was denied.

The shooting occurred at Pinebrook Apartments, 107 Pine Knoll Drive, on June 22, at 8:26 p.m. when RPD received a report of a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers were directed to the playground area near the pool, where they found Lyles, 22, lying on the ground unconscious with a gunshot wound to the chest. Bystanders, officers, and medical personnel administered medical attention but were unable to revive Lyles, Myers said.

Through eyewitness statements and follow-up interviews, detectives identified Taylor as the suspect. A warrant was issued for Taylor on one count of murder and efforts to apprehend him began immediately, Myers said.
