Madison Central High School’s tennis and golf teams were recognized Tuesday night by the city of Madison for being at the top of their game and winning their respective 2023 MHSAA State Championships.

Mayor Mary Hawkins-Butler said not many cities can brag about having two different groups of state champions.

“Congratulations to all of you and your parents,” Hawkins-Butler said. “We are so proud of you.”

The Madison Central tennis team, which has won four state championships in a row, received recognition first.

Head Coach Brad Boteler handed out certificates of recognition to every team member present at the meeting.

The Madison Central Golf Team received recognition next, and Head Coach Todd Beach also presented every team member present with a certificate.

These team members included: Joseph Wright, Cole Flesher, Ty Miller, George Tickner, Kamden Yearick, Hayden Webber, Daniel Young, Tucker Gutierrez, Gray Collins, Cash Jones, and Parker Winders.

“Always remember to never quit, dream big and remember to pray,” Hawkins-Butler said. “God bless you.”
