The Beth Israel congregation and the congregation of the First Presbyterian Church of Jackson recently joined Sunday afternoon for a guided tour of the Beth Israel Cemetery (1860) across the street from the church at 1390 N State Street.

Before everyone walked over to the cemetery for the tour, a brief introduction was presented on the history of the Jewish community in Jackson.

The Beth Israel congregation was established in 1860, and The First Presbyterian Church of Jackson was established in 1837. At left is Rabbi Joseph Rosen of Beth Israel.

At right is the Rev. Wiley P. Lowry III, minister of teaching and pastoral care at First Presbyterian.  Attendees enjoyed a time of coffee, dessert, and fellowship at the church after the tour.
