Jackson man killed on I-55 in hit-and-run

A Jackson man was fatally injured in a hit-and-run while walking along Interstate 55 in Madison County last weekend, the authorities said.

The victim has been identified as Matthew Adams, 39, of Jackson, according to Trooper First Class Darnika Mayfield with the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

“This crash remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol,” Mayfield said.

On Saturday, Aug. 5, at about 6:08 p.m., MHP responded to a fatal hit-and-run on Interstate 55 in Madison County involving a pedestrian, according to Mayfield. The incident happened southbound between the 126 and 127 mile markers, MHP reported.

Mayfield said an unknown vehicle collided with Adams while he was walking south on Interstate 55.

Adams received fatal injuries from the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene, Mayfield said.
