Madison County Schools is pleased to announce Brittany Hammett as principal of Madison Avenue Upper Elementary School (MAUE). Hammett has worked in education since 2007, serving most recently as assistant principal at Madison Middle School. Taking the lead role at MAUE is a homecoming for Mrs. Hammett who served earlier in her career as the lead fifth grade teacher at the school.

“It is a great privilege to have the opportunity to once again be a part of the exceptional MAUE community. I am committed to building upon the rich traditions and achievements that have shaped MAUE into the incredible school it is today,” Hammett said.

“We are very excited for Mrs. Hammett to step into the lead position at Madison Avenue Upper Elementary,” said Madison County Schools Superintendent Charlotte Seals, “Mrs. Hammett is familiar with the outstanding culture and excellent programs at MAUE from her time as a teacher there. Having served most recently as assistant principal for sixth grade at Madison Middle, she is perfectly positioned to make sure MAUE students are well-prepared and ready to excel beyond their elementary days.”

Hammett earned a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Mississippi and a Master of Education Leadership from Mississippi College. She has been married to her husband Jon for 17 years. The Hammetts have two children, Audrey who is a rising sophomore at Madison Central and Jon Andrew who will be coming to MAUE as a fifth grader in the fall.

Hammett will begin serving as principal at MAUE this summer following the transition of Principal Kim Brewer to the lead role at Rosa Scott School.
