Deputies involved in shooting of a suspect

CANTON — A man who went on a shooting rampage here that killed one person and injured others was fatally shot by Madison County Sheriff’s deputies Tuesday night as they attempted to apprehend him.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating the officer-involved shooting.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Bailey Martin said the deceased suspect shot by officers is 24-year-old Ladarrius Johnson. The person he allegedly fatallyy shot has been identified by Madison County Coroner Alex Breelandas Tiara Scott, 34.

“MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence,” Martin said. “Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office.” 

Madison County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call reporting shots fired on Buttonwood Lane in the Oakfield subdivision at 9:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 22.

When deputies arrived they found three people had been shot, one of whom, Scott, was deceased, Hall said.

Deputies then encountered the suspect who was still shooting at one of the victims. Deputies then engaged the suspect who was fatally injured in an exchange of gunfire with deputies.

“MBI is handling the investigation of the officer-involved shooting,” Hall said.

The deputies involved did not receive any serious physical injuries during this incident, Martin said.
