CANTON — Police are investigating a series of Memorial Day shootings here. Canton PD received a call reporting a drive-by shooting on Canal Street at the Cypress Meadow Apartment Complex at about 4:30 p.m. on Monday, May 27.

Officers arrived on the scene to find a 22-year-old male had been shot multiple times in the parking lot. The victim was transported to Merit Health in Canton and then transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

A little earlier that same day, Police Chief Otha Brown said officers responded to a call of shots fired at a residence on Harrington Drive, which is just off King Ranch Road. Brown said two males in their late twenties or early thirties were playing pool in the carport of the home when a man in a ski mask approached them and shot both of them.

The two victims were initially transported to Merit Health and later to UMMC in Jackson.

Brown said investigators are still working on identifying suspects but have identified a vehicle believed to be involved in the incident. He said they currently have the vehicle in police custody.

Brown said the investigation into these incidents is ongoing and noted he has enlisted the help of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
