GLUCKSTADT — Yellowstone actor Forrie Smith was in town last Thursday to sign autographs and take pictures with fans.

Smith was in town for the Dixie National Rodeo in Jackson. “I get to be a cowboy tonight and do what I love to do,” he told fans gathered at Deviney Rental and Equipment on Highway 51.

Smith, a real-life cowboy and Montana native, said being in Madison County was great and didn’t realize how big of a farming community Mississippi was.

“I was flying in yesterday and I looked out the window and saw all the farm fields,” Smith said. “Rural America feeds America and Mississippi is right there at the top of the list and I can tell. I’m glad to be here with my people.”

In Yellowstone, Smith plays head ranch hand Lloyd Pierce and is the oldest ranch hand at the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch in the show.

Smith said while he hasn’t seen much of Mississippi, he has been able to meet some great people.

“Rural America feeds America and we need to support the Western way of life,” he said. “God bless the men in blue and America.”

Deviney owner Jonathon McMillan said having Smith at his store was a big day with a lot of people.

“It’s exciting for him to come out and meet and greet folks in Madison County,” McMillan said. “We were lucky enough to get him here in the store before he went to the Dixie National Rodeo. Our partnership between Deviney and Harper and Morgan Rodeo opened the door to bring Mr. Smith to Madison.”
