Whimsy Cookie Company serving sweets at Renaissance

A local couple has brought a regional confection chain with an established following known for their colorful cookies to Renaissance at Colony Park.

Pepper Carter and her husband Allan opened the Whimsy Cookie Company on Nov. 6. After being open for about two months, Pepper says they have hit the ground running in the whirlwind of holiday shopping

"It was kind of the best and worst time to hit the ground running," she said. "Whimsy already had a following in the area so we were able to take take full advantage of the holiday shopping season."

The store was mobbed by dedicated fans familiar with the Memphis-based chain. The company had also built a local following with a presence at local trade shows and events like Mistletoe Marketplace.

The Carters both spend time in the store in addition to their full-time jobs. Pepper said that her dedicated staff has gone a long way in helping balance that workload.

"We have a great staff. Our kitchen and general managers are great," she said. "We have a great staff, in a great place and great customers."

She said the brand seemed like a good fit because of her passion for baking at home.

"Whimsy is really something that is pleasant and exciting," she said. "We had a friend suggest looking into something with them and they had been trying to bring something to the area for a while so it was a good fit."



At any given time, Whimsy has as many as 500 cookies on display and ready for sale. Specialties include goodie bags of small frosted cookies called bites, gooey cookies of a variety of favors and ornately-decorated frosted cookies. Pepper said that though most of their inventory is dictated by a corporate schedule, they have room for local specialties as well.

" We want to do something for the national championship game with LSU and Clemson. Maybe purple footballs or something," she said.

They also do special orders and can accommodate requests like special designs or corporate logos.

"We want everyone to have to have an experience when they come in. We are not your average cookie store."

Part of that experience is an Instagram-ready seating area with a big Whimsy Cookies sign and decorative couches, perfect for a quick picture.
