Tractors, trucks event March 4

MADISON — A popular event designed to help children learn about recreational and emergency vehicles is set March 4 after it was rained out in November

Tractors, Trucks and Big Stuff will be held at Liberty Park from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the parking lot next to the soccer fields with concessions available.

Amy Cummins, events coordinator for the city of Madison, said they chose March to try it as a spring event to see how the community receives the change.

“Since this is one of our most requested events, we wanted to make sure it was available for the community,” Cummins said. “We always have a ton of events scheduled in the fall.”

Cummins said the event is a fun, hands-on learning experience for children to explore a large variety of vehicles and heavy machinery, such as fire trucks, police cars, school buses, and more.

These vehicles will be available for kids to play on, blow the horns, and have pictures made.

“Kids love the big machinery and vehicles, and this gives them an opportunity to see them up close,” Cummins said. “They’ll be able to see all the different kinds of knobs, gears, and other things. They look at these vehicles from afar and wonder how they work, so with this event they can see it all up close.”

Cummins said the city is still working on some new additions to the event, such as adding a UPS truck and postal truck to the mix.

“Hopefully we can make it work,” Cummins said. “It all depends on if the date works and we’re trying to incorporate as many types of vehicles that have been requested.”
