Teen killed in fatal wreck on I-55

Officials are investigating a crash on I-55 over the weekend that fatally injured a teenage girl, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol said.

The victim has been identified as 17-year-old Enya Meeks of Pickens, according to Trooper Darnika Mayfield.

“This crash remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol,” Mayfield said.

According to Mayfield, on Saturday, Oct. 28, at about 7:31 p.m., the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 55 near the 125-mile-marker in Madison County north of Canton near the Big Black. 

A 2016 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Meeks was traveling south on Interstate 55 when it ran off the road and hit a tree, Mayfield said. 

Meeks received fatal injuries from the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene, according to Mayfield.
