Supreme Court denies appeals from Canton, Mac Haik in Gluckstadt incorporation effort

The Mississippi Supreme Court has denied petitions for interlocutory appeal by the City of Canton and two Mac Haik auto dealerships over the ongoing Gluckstadt incorporation attempt.

A petition by the City of Canton was denied on Thursday, with the petition for Haik denied today (Friday).

Chancery Judge James Walker ruled on March 29 that Gluckstadt incorporators had met their burden of proof with enough signatures to proceed with a full trial.

The petitions were filed in May and argued that Gluckstadt incorporators did not receive enough signatures of qualified voters in the area to proceed with the effort.

The trial was initially scheduled for August, but due to the petitions filed by Canton and Haik, the trial was delayed until February 2019.
