Standoff at apartments involved drug dealing

CANTON — A man arrested here on drug charges by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office after a standoff at an apartment complex last week remains in custody.

The man, Marcus Jamaal Anderson, 39, was arrested and charged with trafficking a controlled substance, the authorities said.

MCSO spokesman Heath Hall said they arrested Anderson on Friday, June 30, at about 1:15 p.m. at Lula B. Covington Apartments on Holmes Avenue on a warrant for cocaine possession.

“He initially barricaded himself in an apartment at Lula B," Hall said. “He surrendered to law enforcement and is in custody.”

Hall said MCSO was initially called to the scene at 11:20 a.m.

Hall said deputies attempted to serve the arrest warrant to Anderson. Hall said Anderson is also wanted by MDOC for a probation violation.
