GLUCKSTADT — The city will soon crack down on businesses operating here without a privilege license.

City Clerk Lindsay Kellum told aldermen on Tuesday that there are several outstanding privilege licenses.

“We’re going to work with legal on trying to figure out those at this point that are willfully or grossly late on filing,” she said.

Mayor Walter Morrison asked how many were delinquent and was told there were about 75.

“We did send a nasty letter back in September after many attempts,” Kellum said. “At this point, they’ve had plenty of opportunities to file with us.”

“As distasteful as it is, we’re going to have to do it,” Morrison said, noting it’s just the rules.

Kellum said they would also be exploring new regulations and enforcement.

“We’re going to try to avoid filing 75 different lawsuits,” Kellum said.
