Ridgewood Road work remains underway

RIDGELAND — Work crews are ahead of schedule and eyeing a mid-September completion date on an ongoing drainage project that has left a portion of Ridgewood Road closed to motorists here.

A portion of Ridgewood Road between East State Street and Wilson Drive was closed last month for a drainage improvement project being undertaken by Hemphill Construction.

Based on a memo from City Engineer Chris Bryson, the project is currently on schedule for completion on or around Sept. 14.

Hemphill had completed 21 percent of the work for the project in just 13 percent of the allotted time, Bryson’s memo said, which refers to work completed between June 16 and June 27.

The notice to proceed was issued on June 16.

The contract amount is $1,038,370. Hemphill is the contractor and Benchmark Engineering is overseeing the project.

At the regularly scheduled city board meeting on Tuesday night, city officials unanimously approved a first payment for the project in the amount of $219,357.50 for the work completed in June.

Money for the project comes from Madison County Interlocal Agreement reimbursement funds, American Rescue Plan Act funds and Mississippi Municipal and County Water Infrastructure grants funds designed for the Purple Creek Basin Drainage Improvement project.
