New Stage Theatre is holding open auditions for their 2023-2024 season that are open to children and adults from Madison County and the tri-state area.

The theatre is seeking all types of male and female adult actors and singers ages 18 and up, and child actors ages 6 and up to play roles in productions such as “Elf The Musical” and “The Secret Garden.”

Adult actors are also needed for Ken Ludwig’s comedy “Lend Me a Soprano” and a recent play, “Chicken and Biscuits,” by Douglas Lyons. New Stage says actors, singers and instrumentalists are especially needed for the upcoming musicals “Beautiful: The Music of Carole King” and Heidi Schreck’s “What the Constitution Means to Me.”

Adult auditions are being held Saturday, August 5 and Monday, August 7, while child auditions will be held Friday, August 4 and Saturday, August 5.

New Stage Artistic Director Francine Thomas Reynolds said the theatre is incredibly excited to present a season with a full slate of shows offering many wonderful opportunities for the region’s talented artists.

“We have frequently found new faces from the auditions and I can’t wait to be amazed by the talent demonstrated by them and our more established actors,” Reynolds said. “Since we are producing several large cast shows this season that need a variety of local, regional and national actors, I encourage any interested singer, actor or performer to come to our local auditions.”

Reynolds said the theatre is in need of singers since there are three upcoming musicals for the season, and child choir members are needed, particularly for “The Secret Garden.”

“We are looking forward to seeing the best actors, singers, and actor/musicians that Mississippi and the South has to offer and finding a place for them on stage during the 2023-2024 Celebrate Season 58: Laughter, Love and Wonder,” Reynolds said.

The selection of plays in Season 58 offers the opportunity to cast a wide range of diversity of talent, and directors viewing the auditions will also be considering actors for other projects during the year. These projects include “Unframed at New Stage Theatre Series” and “The Eudora Welty New Play Series” in the Hewes Room Theatre and Warehouse Theatre spaces.

Interested actors can register for an audition appointment online at www.newstagetheatre.com/auditions from now until August 2 for youth auditions and August 3 for adult auditions.

New Stage said actors must have an appointment in order to attend the audition, and a one to two-minute memorized monologue is required along with a recent photo. Actors may also prepare 60 seconds of any song. New Stage will provide a CD player, smart phone connection, and a keyboard.

Musicians are encouraged to bring their instruments. Resumes are not mandatory but actors may provide one if they choose. Actors should arrive 15 minutes prior to audition time to complete paperwork. Actors will have a maximum of three minutes for their audition.

The auditions will be in the auditorium at New Stage Theatre, located at 1100 Carlisle Street in Jackson. For more information, call (601) 948-3533 ext. 236, or visit www.newstagetheatre.com.
