For Madison County Native Tony Esquijarosa, the Gluckstadt Fire Department was a good opportunity to turn his service to his country in the military to a more local focus in the community he grew up in.

The Germantown High 2020 grad said he enlisted in the Army while still in high school. In the Army he worked on Chinook Helicopters and has recently transferred to the National Guard as an E-5 sergeant.

“We kept helicopters in the air,” Esquijarosa said.

Esquijarosa said he first thought about becoming a firefighter during a conversation with some friends.

“I thought I was already in the military and was already doing stuff for my country,” he said.

Esquijarosa joined the GFD about a year ago and graduated from the Mississippi State Fire Academy on May 23.

“We have a nice community, and I like the folks here,” Esquijarosa said. “This is turning out to be a pretty good thing. I would recommend it to anybody that wants to try it out.”
