RIDGELAND — The new Mustard Seed Gift Shop opened here last week giving supporters the benefit of  shopping closer to home.

Miranda Jones, an associate shop, located at 115 North Wheatley Street, said they saw about 30 customers on their first day. Many were happy to have a way to support the Flowood-based Christian group home for special needed adults closer to home.

“We have a lot of Seedsters in the area so I think there are a lot of families and other people who are excited they now have something closer,” Jones said.

The new gift shop opened on Monday, Jan. 9.

The Mustard Seed is a Flowood-based Christian group home and ministry that cares for adults with special needs and serves as a place for them to recreate and work creating paintings and ceramics which are sold in The Mustard Seed Gift Shop.

Andi Cruthirds, director of Community Relations for the Mustard Seed, said she hopes the new location will expand the reach of their organization and offer their care and services to more families.

“Hopefully this will open up the ministry to more families in the area,” Cruthirds said.

She said an official ribbon cutting for the store is planned for early February. As the store establishes itself, Cruthirds said they hope to expand services offered out of the Ridgeland store. Plans include making the store a drop off and pickup spot for the Flowood facility.

The store is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. To learn more about The Mustard Seed, how to register a Seedster or volunteer, visit www.mustardseedms.org, or call (601) 992-3556 or go to shopmustardseedms.org to shop.
