Missing child believed traveling U.S. 49 found safe

An Endangered/Missing Child Alert for 1-year-old Nathanuel Sumner Jr. of Ruleville in Sunflower County was canceled Monday evening.

"The Endangered Child Alert on Nathanuel Sumner Jr has been canceled. He has been located and is safe," the Mississippi Department of Public Safety announced at 6:16 p.m. on May 29.

The initial alert said he could be headed south on U.S. 49 with a 28-year-old woman.

He was described as a black male, three feet tall, weighing 27 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

He was last seen wearing camouflage jogging pants, a beige t-shirt, and black Nike boots on Tuesday, May 23, at about 4:30 p.m., in the 400 block of South Oak Ave. in Sunflower County.

Nathanuel Sumner Jr was accompanied by Cayla Ross, described as a 28-year-old black female, five feet nine inches tall, with black hair and brown eyes.

Nathanuel Sumner Jr. and Cayla Ross were believed to be in a tan Chevrolet Tahoe unknown tag traveling south on US 49, the authorities initially said.
