Madison resident pens Halloween children’s book

As a grandmother, Madison’s Ann Dickerson was just looking to send amusing letters to her grandchildren in Tennessee. Each one contained a bit of a special Halloween story that when all stacked up, became her special holiday story, Halloween Magic. 

“I have always wanted it to be a book. I think it is a story children will like and it is not scary or gory but just fun,” she said. “I had fun writing it. I recently posted on Facebook, Happiness is when someone likes your book.”

The book has been a long time in the making. 

“I wrote it about 15 years ago in installments like Dickens would write a little bit of a story and continue the next time,” she said. “They were just letters that after being read sat in a drawer and I always wanted to turn them into a book. It just never happened.”

The Halloween Magic story is dedicated to her five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Dickerson has recently been to Tennessee and Madison area schools reading the book. The story revolves around a scarecrow who comes to life and a few adventures with the six trick-or-treaters. 

“Mysterious things are happening in Mr. Yancey’s garden. Discover how his pumpkins are saved for trick-or-treaters when magic is in the air,” Dickerson described the storyline.
