Madison County Schools scores ‘A’ in state

Madison County Schools have earned their 10th consecutive “A” rating from the state.

“We are thrilled to see the hard work of our students, faculty, and administrators come to fruition with such outstanding results,” Madison County Schools Superintendent Charlotte Seals said of the results for the 2022-2023 school year.

The district has maintained an “A” rating every year, according to District spokesman Gene Wright.

“Madison County Schools has earned an A rating every year since the letter-grade scoring system was implemented by the state,” Wright said. “Meaning this year marks the tenth consecutive A grade for the district.” 

Campus-level performance in the district is the strongest in a decade, according to Wright, with every school in Madison County Schools earning either an A or B rating.

“We are especially proud that every school in our district has earned an A or a B school-level grade,” Seals said.

Madison County Schools were in the top eight school districts out of over 130 in the state with 758 total points on the rating scale. County schools claimed a 91.2 graduation rate.

“Students in every corner of Madison County are showing they are mastering lessons and are prepared for the next grade and next step on their academic journey,” Seals said. “These results are testament to the dedication and hard work of our teachers in preparing students and our administrators in making sure teachers and students in each of our schools have the tools and support they need to succeed.”

The Mississippi Department of Education released the grade-level scores of districts and schools across the state at their Board meeting on Sept. 28. 

Madison County Schools serve more than 13,000 students in grades pre-K through 12 on 23 campuses.

The state issues accountability ratings on an “A” to “F” scale and centers on the progress of students from one school year to the next.

MAAP measures student performance in English/Language Arts, and mathematics in grades three through eight, science in grades five and eight along with English II, Algebra I, Biology, and U.S. History in high school.
