A new $6 million 12-court tennis facility near Rosa Scott that will cover all four zones of the Madison County School District was recently celebrated during a groundbreaking.

The complex is expected to be completed in the fall of 2024, district spokeswoman Gene Wright said.

Madison County Schools held the groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, Dec. 20, at 10:30 a.m. to celebrate the start of construction on the district-wide tennis complex.

Superintendent Charlotte Seals said the facility will help grow the tennis programs across the district.

At the event, she addressed tennis players from all four school zones directly.

“This about you,” She said. “We want to provide the very best for all of our students.”

MCS Board President Sam Kelly said he hoped the facility would create opportunities to get more kids involved and learn the game. He said the last time the district got together for a groundbreaking was at Germantown High School in Sept. for the Performing Arts Center slated for completion this coming summer.

I think we have shown that whatever our students are interested in we have something for them to do,” Kelly said.

The facility, which will be located on property adjacent to Rosa Scott School, will include 12 lighted tennis courts. The tennis complex will have a concession facility as well as restrooms and changing rooms.

Wier Boerner Allin Architecture designed the tennis complex, and Probity Contracting Group is constructing the facility.

The project will serve all four zones of Madison County Schools, including Madison, Ridgeland, Germantown, and Velma Jackson.

Currently, there are no tennis courts in Madison County Schools, and tennis teams rent tennis courts for practice to play, Wright said.

“Once the tennis complex is complete, school tennis teams will have courts readily available for student athletes,” Wright said.
