Madison County issuing new voter registration cards

Madison County issuing new voter registration cards

Posted

All registered voters in Madison County have been receiving new voter registration cards in advance of the upcoming primary elections. These cards identify the location of each citizen’s voting precincts in municipal, county, state, national and elections. They also supply details on each voter’s congressional, senate, house, and judicial districts.

The new cards are being issued due to the statewide election redistricting that took place due to the 2020 Census. As a result of redistricting, changes were made to a number of electoral districts to reflect Madison County’s rapidly growing population. Some voters will find that they are in different legislative, supervisory, and/or judicial districts than they were previously. While most Madison County voters will continue to vote at their current precinct locations, in some cases the number of the precinct will change to reflect that they are now located in a different supervisory district.

The new cards will aid voters in finding their proper polling location on election day, and in identifying those who represent them in county, state and national elections. These cards cannot be used for voter identification at the polls, as Mississippi’s Voter ID law requires picture IDs, such as licenses or passports, issued by a proper government agency.

Voters who receive an incorrect voter registration card, or who do not receive a card at all by the end of June, should notify the Madison County Circuit Clerk’s office at (601)859-4365 to assure that a current, accurate card is issued.
