Indoor Percussion Group wins state title

The Germantown High School Band spring activities finished this season with good showings at the state competition in Jackson in March.

Justin Harvison, Director of Bands at Germantown, was proud of how his Indoor Percussion and Winterguard teams performed.

“I couldn’t be prouder,” Harvison said. “These are unique, critical outlets that build a variety of things for the kids, including emotional intelligence and confidence as well as music literacy.”

The Germantown Indoor Percussion group was undefeated and won their first state championship, Harvison said. They started this season in A Class, and after receiving first place in A class at the WGI Jackson Regional, were promoted to Open class in the final week and won the final show at Mississippi Indoor Association State Championships in Jackson on March 22, with their show entitled “Lunae.”

The GHS Winterguard made the Top 25 at the WGI World Championships in Dayton, Ohio, on April 11 and were Silver Medalists at the Mississippi Indoor Association in Jackson on March 23.

Harvison gave all the credit to his directors. Ryan Saul and Josh Craft directed the Indoor Percussion team and Allison Tyler-Craft and Ethan Marcus were in charge of the Winterguard.

“All the credit goes to the directors and the kids in the programs,” Harvison said. “During the spring, I am in charge of our concert ensembles and really just make sure the kids and directors have what they need from an administrative standpoint. I think they have done a really good job.”
