Organizers of a new competitive soccer club in Gluckstadt hope to capitalize on the momentum gained from its fall schedule as they prepare for a full slate of tournaments in the spring.

Gluckstadt Futbol Club Director Kevin Lanford said he had a team of 10 players in the fall. He said they went to six tournaments in the state, most of which were in the metro Jackson area. The club was started in June of this year.

Most notably they took second place in the Rankin Super Cup held on Sept. 22 through Sept 24 in Brandon and recently participated in the Gluckstadt Christmas Parade.

Right now the club fields one boys team of eight-year-olds but Lanford said he hopes to expand the club to have boys and girls teams from several age groups.

“Our kids really span the spectrum of just trying to learn to skilled,” Lanford said. “Our goal is to have a wide range of skill levels.”

Lanford said they should start playing again in February and continue through June. He is currently working on scheduling tournaments for next year.

“I am working on the spring schedule,” Lanford said. “We should be playing in another five or six tournaments.”

Gluckstadt FC is set to host tryouts in the late spring for the. fall 2024 slate of tournaments.

Lanford said anyone interested in getting involved with GFC is encouraged to give him a call at (769) 284-9163.
