A convicted felon driving a stolen pickup led Madison police on a high-speed pursuit Wednesday morning and is now accused of assaulting law enforcement officers, the authorities said.

An officer observed a suspected stolen vehicle at 11:42 a.m. and attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the Highland Colony Parkway at Lake Castle Road.

The driver of the stolen 2014 Chevrolet pick-up truck refused to stop and fled south into Ridgeland.

Other Madison units assisted as well as officers from the Ridgeland Police Department and Madison County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver of the stolen vehicle continued southbound on the Highland Colony turning west onto Old Agency Road, then north onto Richardson Road and then east onto Steed Road.

The driver turned north onto Sunnybrook Road and as he approached Colony Park Boulevard drove into a field and became stuck and was apprehended without incident, police said.

Several Madison police vehicles were struck and damaged by the fleeing vehicle during the course of the pursuit.

There were no injuries and no other property damage was reported.

The driver of the stolen vehicle, Jonathan S. Gray, 30, of Vicksburg, was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, felony fleeing, three counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a stolen firearm.

Gray was transported to the Madison County Detention Center where he awaits his initial court appearance in Madison Municipal Court.
