Dump truck collides with minivan, shuts down road

An accident last Monday involving a dump truck and minivan resulted in minor injuries but a big mess, Gluckstadt Police Chief Barry Hale said.

“The driver of the dump truck was transported to a hospital in stable condition, and the occupants of the van were unhurt,” Hale said.

The incident occurred on June 17 at 1:30 p.m. at Yandell Road and Highway 51.

The dump truck was traveling southbound on Highway 51 when the minivan turned left.

“The dump truck driver actually did a great job in avoiding a worse outcome for the other driver,“ Capt. Dustin Perry with the Gluckstadt Fire Department said. “He was transported to a local hospital for his injuries and thank goodness the occupants of the other vehicle walked away with minor injuries.”

The dump truck turned over and spilled gravel on the roadway. Hale said this kept the road blocked for about 45 minutes before the Public Works Department could get crews and equipment out to the site to clear the roadway.
