MADISON — Frank Phann, the new owner of Donut Barn here, has goal is to serve customers good food while spreading the word of the Lord.

“We’ve been praying for another business opportunity, and I feel like the Lord led us to the right place,” Phann said. “We hope people will come in here not just for the donuts, but also to feel the Lord and see him. We have a prayer wall and it’s the first thing you see when you walk in. We must put Him first in everything we do.”

Donut Barn, located off Highway 51 in between Venus Nails and OEC Japanese Express, had a soft re-opening on Sept. 6 under Phann’s new ownership. The city held a ribbon cutting to celebrate, and Mayor Mary Hawkins-Butler, alderman, city officials, members of the Madison Police Department, business leaders and others attended the event.

Phann said he was inspired to take over Donut Barn when he heard about the Madison location adding that the previous owner was a good friend of his.

“He said he was going to retire, and we were interested in taking over for him,” Phann said.

Phann also owns another donut shop in Pearl, where he sells not only donuts, but Po Boys, fried rice, burgers, and more.

He said anyone walking into his Donut Barn in Madison for the first time can expect traditional donuts, regular glazed, chocolate, sprinkles for the kids, filled donuts, Long Johns, and light breakfast items like croissants, breakfast burritos, and biscuits.

“We want to thank everyone for supporting us during this soft opening, and we’re looking forward to serving the community,” he said. “We want to do whatever we can to support and be good citizens.”

Mayor Mary Hawkins-Butler said she met Phann when he originally worked at Corner Bakery and became good friends with him there.

“You can see a light in Frank and a goodness in him,” Hawkins-Butler said. “He’s a very special man and we wish him the best. We know if you keep your faith, God will lift you up. We feel our prayers go unheard sometimes because we don’t immediately get an answer. But we know He is there and we’re going to get the word out that Frank is here in town.”

“If you want good service, great food like donuts, you’ve come to the right place,” she said.

Donut Barn’s hours are 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. daily and they are located at 1069 Highway 51 Madison, MS 39110. Reach them at (601) 605-8100.
