A daycare worker accused of child abuse was sentenced to two years in prison after she pleaded guilty last week, according to the Madison County District Attorney’s office.

The worker, Ruby Mae Wilkerson, 53, pleaded guilty on Oct. 17 and was sentenced this past Monday, according to Assistant DA Ashley Allen. Wilkerson received 10 years with 8 suspended leaving two to serve, Allen said.

“This was an open plea without recommendation from the state,” Allen said. “The victim’s family was in court and spoke during the sentencing hearing.”

Wilkerson was arrested by Madison County Sheriff’s Deputies on one felony count of child abuse around 11 a.m. on Dec. 7, 2021.

The alleged incident happened on Friday, Nov. 19, at the Kid’s World Center off of Highway 463 in Madison County between Annandale and Livingston.

The child’s mother, Katorra Lewis, first posted about the incident on social media. Her post included a video of the alleged incident. She also posted pictures of her daughter, who was reported to be three years old at the time, with a welt on her face, allegedly from the incident in question.
