A daycare worker in Madison County has been arrested and charged with child abuse on Tuesday in relation to an event reported in mid November.

Sheriff’s Department Spokesman Heath Hall said that they arrested Ruby Mae Wilkerson, 53, on one felony count of child abuse around 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec 7.

Hall said that Wilkerson’s bond is pending an initial appearance in justice court.

Other news organizations have reported that the victim is a female approximately 3 years old. However, Hall said Tuesday that he could not confirm the victim’s age or gender.

The alleged incident happened on Friday, Nov. 19, at the Kid’s World Center off of Mannsdale Road in Madison County.

The mother, Katorra Lewis, posted about the incident on social media after the incident happened and was first brought to light. Her post includes a video of the alleged incident.

“She should be ashamed of herself,” Lewis wrote in the social media post. “This is facts please share and pay attention to your child because my daughter was innocent and being abuse by a teacher you suppose to trust! I can’t take this no more.”

She also posted pictures of her daughter with a welt on her face allegedly from the incident in question.
