City license plate reader destroyed

Gluckstadt Police still have not found a suspect related to an incident where a city license plate reader was destroyed by a vehicle at the beginning of this year.

An incident report filed by the Gluckstadt Police Department notes that the incident happened on Jan. 31. A police department memo says that the last picture taken by the camera was taken at 10:40 p.m.

A report from Police Chief Barry Hale says that the FlockSafety license plate reader on Gluckstadt Road near Bozeman Road was found “destroyed and lying on the ground.”

“We were unable to locate any vehicle of suspect information,” Hale’s report said.

The camera was initially placed on the consent agenda at the Nov. 14, meeting for disposal but was removed because it was a leased item and not city property.

Flock was contacted about the vandalism and the camera has been replaced.

The city approved seven Flock cameras in October. The total number of FlockSafety license plate readers in Gluckstadt is now 12.

Officials have said the cameras are another good resource for Gluckstadt PD and are “strategically” placed around the city near businesses and restaurants.
