Canton High wins state title

The Canton High School Tigers were victorious Friday as they captured the 5A Boys Basketball Championship.

Canton defeated Yazoo City 58-40 to finish the season 26-4.

The Tigers had a healthy lead at halftime, up 31-20, and kept the pressure on in the second half.

The Tigers were one of four Madison County teams who made it all the way to the state championships this year.

The Canton High School Lady Tigers also competed for the 5A title on Friday, but unfortunately fell short, losing to Laurel 40-32. On Saturday, the Ridgeland High Titans squared off against Olive Branch.

Despite leading much of the game, the match came down to the final minutes and the Titans lost 49-46.

Later on Saturday, the Germantown Lady Mavericks competed for the 7A state championship. Facing powerhouse Tupelo, Germantown fell short and lost the contest 47-38.

Congratulations to all the area high school basketball teams on their impressive seasons.
