Business Alliance donates $6K for police K-9

The Gluckstadt-Madison Business Alliance presented a $6,000 check to the Gluckstadt Police Department earlier this month to aid the department in purchasing a new police dog. 

The Business Alliance raised the money during their first annual golf tournament, the “Stadt Scramble,” which was held on May 5. The check, which was originally presented to GPD on June 6 and acknowledged again by Mayor Walter Morrison and the Board of Alderman. 

Gluckstadt Police Chief Wendell Watts said a K9 plays a very important role in law enforcement. 

"Being able to start a police department from the ground up is a monumental task, to say the least, but being able to purchase our very first K9 will be a history making event for the city of Gluckstadt's new police department."

GMBA President Grant Montgomery said the Business Alliance is proud to be in Gluckstadt and it was an honor to present the check to GPD. 

“We had a plan going into the golf tournament of raising money for the police department,” Montgomery said. “We want to see the city grow, and we need a K-9. That was our goal, and we’re glad we met that goal.” 

Elizabeth Tyler, executive director of the GMBA, said the Business Alliance’s mission is growing businesses and strengthening the community. 

"With the city being new, we wanted to do something that would benefit the whole community,” Tyler said. “This is a perfect fit.”
