RIDGELAND — A fire at an apartment complex here remains under investigation.

Ridgeland firefighters responded to Pear Orchard Apartments off of South Pear Orchard Road behind Freedom Ridge Park in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Nov. 28.

Fire Chief Matt Bailey said firefighters were on the scene at 12:56 a.m. and left about 4 a.m.

Firefighters found heavy fire showing from one upstairs apartment and the adjoining breezeway in one of the units at the complex.

“Firefighters made an aggressive attack and were able to contain the fire to one unit and the attic space directly above the unit,” Bailey said.

Some of the first-floor apartments suffered water damage but no one was injured in the fire.

Bailey said the occupants of the apartment were home when the fire started and got out safely. The unit and an adjoining apartment were rendered unliveable as a result of the fire.

“The cause is under investigation,” Bailey said. “Please keep the families that were displaced in your thoughts and prayers.”
