18th Annual Scarecrow Car Show starts Friday

MADISON — The Scarecrow Cruise and Car Show is returning to the Montgomery House this year.

Henri Fuselier, president of Mississippi Classic Cruisers, said they are expecting over 500 participants in the show this year, and all proceeds go to two charities the club supports, the Mississippi SIDs Foundation and Hope Hollow Ministries.

“This is the 18th year we’re doing the show,” Fuselier said. “We started back in 2003 and had it at the corner of Highway 51 and Main Street back then. We moved it to the Montgomery House in 2021, and it’ll be there again this year. In 2003 we had around 100 cars for the show, and this year we’re expecting around 520 cars.”

He said the Mississippi Classic Cruisers were looking for a way to enjoy their hobby and support the Mississippi SIDs Foundation, and that’s how the Scarecrow Cruise and Car Show was born.

The show this year starts on Friday, Oct. 21 at 9 a.m. for registration and runs through Saturday, Oct. 22.

“You can register now up until the day of the show,” Fuselier said. "The show is free of charge for spectators, and it is $30 to enter a vehicle. All kinds of vehicles are welcome - from a new 2022 car, to tractors and old trucks, even motorcycles and scooters. You’re mostly going to see classic cars at the show.”

The show will offer events that involve cash prizes and a Trunk or Treat for the kids on Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. followed by a balloon glow.

Fuselier said Saturday is the main show, with registration opening at 8 a.m.

“There will be music by D.J. Dave, trivia and prizes,” he said. “Food and drink will be available and several vendors will be on site to sell things like collector license plates and jewelry. Reps from the Mississippi SIDs Foundation will be there to raise money along with people from Hope Hollow, who will have a silent auction.”

The Saturday show ends at 3 p.m. with an awards ceremony where winners can win prizes such as ribbons and plaques for their car entries.

Fuselier said the show will include a display of cars from each decade starting from 1900 all the way to 2020, along with a school bus from the early 1900s, a fire truck from that same era, and a boat car.

Spectators are permitted to park in the Madison First Baptist and Madison First United Methodist church parking lots.
