GLUCKSTADT — A company presented a $1,000 check to alderman Tuesday night to help fund a large flagpole outside City Hall.

Ken Phillips and Jenny Ozier representing WoodmenLife presented the check.

WoodmenLife is an insurance firm founded in 1890 based out of Omaha, Nebraska, that has chapters across the country providing life insurance, retirement plans, accidental death insurance, annuities and more.

Ken Phillips, Madison WoodmenLife secretary, presented the check personally to Mayor Walter Morrison.

Phillips said their office is right down the road from City Hall and he recently noticed the building had no flagpole.

“WoodmenLife is one of the largest purchasers and donors of American flags in the nation,” Phillips said. “We’ve been around since 1890. When the flagpole is set up, we’ll also gladly donate you an American and Mississippi flag. And now, our chapter has donated $1000 towards the purchase of a flagpole here.”

Mayor Morrison graciously accepted the donation on behalf of the city.

“Thank you very much,” he said.

There is no estimated completion date of the flagpole as of now.
