Madison County Schools announced last week Devona Dew will be the next principal of Rosa Scott School, the ninth-grade campus of the Jaguar attendance zone. Mrs. Dew is a career educator, with 25 years of experience as a teacher and administrator. She currently serves as an assistant principal at Germantown Middle School.

“I am thrilled to be chosen as the next principal of Rosa Scott School. It is with great honor that I have the opportunity to serve the students, faculty, staff, and community. I am eager to continue building upon the high standards of excellence that have been a strong foundation for decades,” says Dew.

During her 16 years as a school administrator, Mrs. Dew has overseen implementation of curriculum and College and Career Readiness standards. She has served for years as a school test coordinator and helps teachers effectively use data to drive instruction. She also guided Germantown Middle School to earn model site status for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS).

“Mrs. Dew is a tremendous asset to our district with a track record of selflessly serving others,” says Madison County Schools Deputy Superintendent Ted Poore. “She brings a wealth of talents and skills from her experience as a teacher and administrator to provide enthusiastic and excellent leadership at Rosa Scott. We look forward to her success in this new role,” says Poore.

Dew earned her undergraduate degree from Arkansas State University in 1999, and began teaching and coaching immediately after, later moving to Rankin County in 2003 as a teacher and then an instructional specialist and assistant principal. She earned her master’s degree in educational leadership from Mississippi College prior to joining Madison County Schools in her current role. She and her husband Ben have been married for 26 years. Their children, Jackson and Darby, are both graduates of Germantown High School. Jackson will graduate from Mississippi State University this spring with an engineering degree, and Darby is a student at East Mississippi Community College where she is pursuing a degree in nursing.

Mrs. Dew will begin serving as principal of Rosa Scott School this summer when current principal Dr. Kim Brewer transitions into the role of Elementary Services Director at the district office.
